Brain Injury

Our Acquired Brain Injury Supports (ABIS) program is one of the programs we offer to people with brain injuries. It is designed to help people live in the community with a level of independence that meets their personal goals and health needs.

It is offered through our Home and Community Care services to people who have suffered a brain injury from trauma, stroke, brain tumor, aneurysm or other causes that has resulted in physical, cognitive and emotional changes.What services are provided?Long-term support including:

• Family care homes, contracted group homes and supported apartments
• Community support and maintenance, such as life skills support or community drop-in programs to support your social participation and quality of life if you have a brain injury and are living in the community

Short-term support including:

• Rehabilitation and stabilization, such as occupational therapy and rehabilitation assistance, counseling and behavioral support
• Transitional residential support, such as group homes with a short-term rehabilitation focus

Education

• Education programs for clients, caregivers, staff and partners

• Have sustained a brain injury after birth
• Have sustained a brain injury that is not solely related to drug or alcohol use
• Meet eligibility requirements for Home and Community Care services
