Our postpartum depression, or perinatal depression services, are for women and men experiencing long periods of worry, anxiety and sadness before or after the birth or adoption of a baby.

How will I know if I need help?

Talk to your health care professional who can help you understand your feelings better and connect you with supports.

Where can I get more information about postpartum depression? Visit the Pacific Postpartum Support Society website and read the story of a woman who struggled with her feelings after the birth of her baby learn how she found support. The story includes fact sheets on depression, anxiety and references to the in person and phone supports available.

What services are available? You can access services in your community by phone or in person. See links to services below under the Postpartum Depression services heading.
Who's eligible? Women and their families who need advice or support with depression or anxiety during pregnancy or after the birth of a baby that live in the areas served by Vancouver Coastal Health .
Is there a cost? Services offered through Vancouver Coastal Health and most community partners are free.
How can I access postpartum depression services? You can access services through:

  • The health care professional that you are working with, including your family doctor, midwife, nurse practitioner or public health nurse
  • HealthLink BC
  • Contacting one of the Vancouver Coastal Health service listed below
