Section 7 - School Health Manual

The dental health program helps eliminate preventable oral disease in young children. All children in grade 7 or under, who reside in Vancouver, are eligible for free prevention care.

Preventative dental careWe offer free prevention care services for children in grade 7 or under who live in Vancouver. Call Public Health Dental Services for more information. Emergency dental care Occasionally, a student may experience a dental emergency while at school, such as a dental accident or severe toothache, that requires immediate intervention. If the student does not have a dentist, you can call the Public Health Dental Services for more information and we will try to see him or her. All students are eligible for emergency service regardless of their age.

Reduced-fee dental care We also offer reduced-fee professional dental care for children whose families are not able to afford private dental office visits. Download the list of service providers below:


Kindergarten dental screeningKindergarten dental screening occurs every three years for surveillance purposes. The next universal screening will be during the 2012-13 school year.
