Dr. Dean Chittock
Dr. Dean Chittock is the Vice President, Medicine & Quality and Safety and is responsible for medicine, quality, safety, risk, client relations and infection control.
Biography
Dr. Dean Chittock is responsible for the medicine, quality, safety, risk, client relations and infection control portfolios within Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). A senior leader of the medical team at Vancouver Acute for over a decade, he is also the Executive Sponsor of the Regional Surgical Program, VCH/PHC, Senior Medical Director, Vancouver Acute Services, a Critical Care physician as well as Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at UBC.
Dr. Chittock is the former Medical Director of Critical Care at Vancouver Acute and in 2003 he became Chair of the Regional Critical Care Council. This was followed in 2005 by his appointment as Regional Medical Director. In addition to these roles, Dr. Chittock has functioned as the Division Head for Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine at UBC, Medical Manager of the VGH ICU.
Dr. Chittock graduated from the University of Western Ontario completing an undergraduate degree in Physiology and an MD (Honours) after which he completed a Masters of Science in Clinical Epidemiology and Statistics at Harvard University. Included in his special professional qualifications are a Respiratory Subspecialty Fellowship and a Critical Care Medicine Fellowship. He has a special interest and expertise in quality improvement through his time at the Institute for Health Care Improvement in Boston. His interest and expertise in this area have resulted in many quality care initiatives across VCH that have improved care and access for critical care patients.
