Kiwanis Care Centre celebrates 20 years and a new name: Berkley Care Centre
North Vancouver, B.C. – After two decades, supporting more than 800 residents in this 192-bed licensed residential care facility, Kiwanis Care Centre is changing its name to the Berkley Care Centre.
The new name was announced at the 20th anniversary celebration event held on May 31 at the facility, located at 2444 Burr Place in North Vancouver.
The care centre has provided a comfortable home and quality care to North Shore seniors since 1998, when it was first opened by the Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society. Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) assumed ownership in 2010 and has continued to operate the facility since then.
“The Kiwanis society’s commitment to serving seniors has been a catalyst for service enhancements in our community for decades,” said Karin Olson, Chief Operating Officer, VCH, Coastal Community of Care. “This new name honours the Kiwanis Housing Society’s request to change it to avoid confusion between this facility and other Kiwanis owned seniors’ homes.”
Berkley Care Centre was the name selected, based on input from residents, families, staff and the local community, including the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. It reflects the name of the street leading to the facility, which will help identify its location for visitors.
The announcement of the new name, Berkley Care Centre, was well received by residents, family members, staff, volunteers and special guests who gathered to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the care centre. VCH will continue to operate Berkley Care Centre and residents will receive the same high quality care and support.
