Preparing your resume
A well-prepared resume is a key part of applying for a position at Vancouver Coastal Health. Your resume should clearly highlight the skills, experience, and qualifications most relevant to the role. This guide will help you create a resume that showcases your strengths and aligns with VCH’s values and expectations.
Tips on creating or updating your resume
- Resumes should be concise and easy to read. Avoid using acronyms or abbreviations.
- Include your phone number and email address.
- Provide an overview of your employment history: Starting from your most recent/current position, list your positions from newest to oldest. For each position, include: date range, including month and year, job title, employer, department/unit name and work location
- List details of relevant training and education, including type of credential obtained. This includes any practicum details (dates, location, and number of hours) and Canadian credential equivalency reports if you have completed credentials internationally.
- Indicate any relevant professional registration as required by the job description.
- Ensure your resume shows how you meet job requirements: Highlight skills, experiences and credentials relevant to the role. Update your resume regularly as you change positions or gain new credentials.
- Proofread thoroughly for errors and typos.
Cover letter
A cover letter highlights your qualifications and allows us to learn more about your interest in the role.
The application system allows you to upload one cover letter to your profile, so it may be beneficial to write a general cover letter that is applicable to all roles you are applying for.
The application system allows you to upload one main cover letter to your profile, so it may be beneficial to write a general cover letter that is applicable to all roles you are applying for. To include multiple cover letters or supporting documents, use the “Additional Documents” section and label files clearly (e.g., “Cover Letter for Clerical Postings”).
