Information and requirements for nursing students.
Clinical systems
The following clinical systems are used across the health authority. Please check the sections below to see which systems apply to your practicum's location.
CST Cerner
Shared clinical information system used to access patient information and support defined clinical workflows through automation of information delivery and health-care task requests.
Omnicell

Client-centred health record used in Acute, Community and Long-Term Care homes
Patient Care Information System (PCIS)
Primary health information system supporting staff, when caring for patients, with electronic information
Pixalere
Wound management system
Profile EMR
Electronic medical record system, especially for complex patients/clients with many interdisciplinary caregivers
CareConnect
Secure, view-only Electronic Health Record (EHR) that offers authorized care providers 24/7 access to an integrated, provincial view of clinical information. Important: CareConnect access is not provisioned for Nursing student placements, except for Nurse Practitioners.
Access to clinical systems

Lions Gate Hospital, Sechelt Hospital, and Squamish General Hospital
CST Cerner
LGH (including Evergreen Residential Care) and SGH (including Hilltop Residential Care) require all students to have training in order to access CST Cerner to document care.
Please refer to CST Cerner training requirements and enrollment process for the registration process and how to enroll.
Omnicell
LGH and Sechelt Hospital: Students and instructors may be required to access Omnicell to dispense medications and registration for access is required 2 weeks before the placement starts.
Glucometer
Nursing students on a practicum placement within Vancouver Coastal Health use a generic student ID for the Nova StatStrip glucose meter. Please check with your school for the current ID to use. Training will be given by your preceptor or on-site group instructor.
In some cases, when the student is working a longer time on the unit and a unique ID and password is needed, they should obtain a unique ID from their respective schools. The id can be requested on LearningHub.

qathet General Hospital (formerly Powell River General Hospital
Meditech
All Nursing students require Meditech access. Access setup:
- A modify account form must be submitted to IMITs on the network computer and request LIVE, TEST and OE.
- Must then email Tanico Tan (tanico.tan@phsa.ca) and provide same information: name, ID, ticket number, LIVE, TEST and OE and access similar to listed above.

PARIS / EMR
The PARIS training is offered on the Learning Hub. The online training is self-paced and takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete. It can be accessed on any computer with internet access.

Profile EMR
Profile EMR training for students is offered as a self-paced online course on the Learning Hub. Upon completion of the course, you will also be redirected to the account request form.

Pixalere
For designated sites in VCH Community, Pixalere is used by nurses to electronically document wound, incision, tube/drain and ostomy care.
Nursing students placed at a site that is using Pixalere are to complete the self-paced online training for Pixalere. The online training can be accessed via the Learning Hub on any computer with internet access and must be completed no earlier than 30 days and no later than 3 business days prior to the placement start date.

VCH Community, Primary, and Long Term Care Sites
Pixalere
