Post-surgery information

Information about nutrition after your surgery.

After surgery, you will only be taking sips of clear fluids. This allows your suture site (staple line) to heal and reduce the risk of a post-operative leak. You will slowly increase your clear fluid intake to 2 tbsp every 15 minutes. The following videos outline the usual diet progression for people having bariatric surgery.

Clear fluids (Post-operative days 0 - 2)

Full fluids (Discharge to post-op week 3)

Pureed foods (Post-op week 4 - 5)

Soft solids (Post-op week 6 to 3 months)

Normal texture (Post-op month 3 and beyond)

Vitamin and mineral supplements
