A tastefully furnished library complete with computers with internet access. A lounge area where teas will be available, crafts and activity rooms plus a hairdressing salon and spas for assisted bathing.

Language, culture, religious affiliations

Clarendon Court is a member Society of Baptist Housing Ministries which is a Christian based denominational organization.

Accreditation status

Not accredited but part of an industry self regulation program (BCSLA Seal of Approval) 2006-2015. 

Accreditation is not a requirement of assisted living but some residences have received accreditation status. It is an external peer review process to assess and improve the services health care organizations provide to their residents, based on standards of excellence set by Accreditation Canada

Philosophy of care

Assisted living provides accommodation, hospitality and personal care services in a manner that:

  • Promotes and maximizes choice, dignity, and control for Residents;
  • Promotes the Residents’ right to privacy as well as opportunities for social interaction;
  • Supports Residents’ independence through physical design features in the building and the delivery of support services;
  • Provides care and services that are shaped to meet the Residents’ needs; and
  • Creates a home-like environment that supports the Residents’ preferred lifestyle

Type of accommodation

There are 56 subsidized assisted living one bedroom suites, average size 560 square feet.

Furnishings

All suites come unfurnished. They are equipped with a fridge and a stove. Common areas are tastefully furnished.

Cost

Resident contribution is an amount up to 70% of after tax income, subject to a minimum and maximum amount. The resident contribution includes: monthly rental accomoddation, hospitality services (meals, housekeeping, etc) and personal care. Couples living together pay up to 70% of combined after tax income. 

Examples of items that are not included as part of the 70% include: telephone, cable, household and toiletry supplies, all medications, personal care supplies and insurance.

Food service

Table service is provided in the main dining room at lunch and at dinner. Choices are provided at both meals. Meal plans reviewed by a registered dietitian.

Housekeeping & laundry

Included in the 70% monthly fee is weekly laundry service for sheets and towels (Note: sheets and towels are provided by Clarendon Court), weekly housekeeping of the residents suite. Complementary laundry facilities are available for personal items.

Special recreation opportunities

There will be recreation coordinator on staff with regular social and recreational opportunities. Chaplaincy services are available.

Emergency response (24) capacity

There is a 24 hour on site emergency response.

Accessibility

Residents must be able to move around their suite on their own, and make their own way to the dining room, with or without mobility aides. 

Motorized scooter policy

There is secure scooter parking in the basement with power outlets for charging.

Pet policy

Pets are not permitted. Only approved visiting pets are permitted.

Smoking policy

Clarendon Court is a smoke free building. Smoking is only allowed in designated outdoor areas.

Safety & security features

The building is fully equipped with sprinklers, including common areas and resident suites. Smoke detectors are located in all suites and common areas.

All entrances are secured 24 hours a day and visitors must ring the resident’s suite to gain access to the building. Staff on duty 24 hours.

Parking (tenant & visitor)

Secure underground parking is provided for residents. Ample street parking for visitors.

Neighbourhood & community amenities

Located at 49th and Elliot in the Killarney district of Vancouver. Shopping mall across the street that includes Doctor’s clinic, Pharmacy, Dentist, Bank, Gas Station and a Market for groceries The Killarney Community Centre which includes a swimming pool and a senior’s centre, is just a few kilometers away.

Exit criteria

If the residents care needs change significantly and professional care is required beyond our ability to provide or if resident is unable to self direct own care, make decisions and/or take direction in an emergency, then we cannot accommodate the resident. Residents will be supported to find appropriate alternate arrangements.

Tour information

Tours are available to those that have been pre-authorized by the case manager. Tours are available 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
