Building amenities

Pleasant and totally secured, with large garden areas and patios.  A lounge with a fully equipped kitchen is available for private family gatherings.

Language, culture, religious affiliations

The facility was built and is sponsored by the Polish community of Vancouver and is the facility of choice for those with a Middle European/Slavic background.  English is the working language; many staff are multilingual.  There is a Roman Catholic chapel with a resident Catholic Chaplain and weekly Mass.  Religious services of other predominant religions are facilitated.

Philosophy of care

Philosophy of Care recognizes the rights of each resident to individuality and recognition of his/her uniqueness.  The Lodge believes that an individual’s personal independence and physical, mental, social and spiritual health will be maximized when health care encourages the individual, the family or responsible party and the community to assume some responsibility for the individual’s care.

Type of accommodation

33 single rooms with washrooms and 36 beds in double rooms with a shared washroom.  Residents are admitted to a double room and there is an internal waitlist for single rooms.  Two suites are designated for couples.

Cost

Residents pay 80% of their after tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation. Minimum and maximum rates apply. There may be other costs not included in the resident contribution. For more information on costs, please refer to the Information on Residential Care Guide. 

Special recreation opportunities

A large variety of day and evening programs daily, including weekends and holidays.  Programs include: entertainment, weekly prayers, beauty time and aroma therapy, carpet bowling, music therapy, art therapy, walks, exercises, crafts, table games, hymn sing, special lunches and breakfasts, group discussions, reminiscing, bingo, movies, dances, bus trips and concerts. Monthly library service.  There is a Residents’ Council.  Hairdressing weekly.

Smoking is permitted only in a designated outdoor area.

Wandering prevention system available.  All doors to the facility are locked and visitors must ring the doorbell.

Neighbourhood/community amenities

Green area across the street.  Transit bus runs in front of the building and provides direct link to Sky Train.  Recreation Centre and Champlain Mall are two blocks away.  Tuck Shop on premises.

Alcohol, if approved by personal physician, is stored and dispensed by nursing staff only.
