Health Vision Lions Gate Hospital
As part of our ongoing commitment to the delivery of safe, quality care, at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), we are launching Health Vision Lions Gate Hospital, a high-level planning process for the Lions Gate Hospital (LGH) campus.
Lions Gate Hospital campus
We humbly acknowledge that the land on which the Lions Gate Hospital is located is the traditional and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw and Tsleil-Waututh Nation.
LGH is a recognized trauma centre and one of only five neurosurgery centres in British Columbia (BC), with 317 beds, eight operating rooms, and a variety of diagnostic services and equipment.
LGH provides acute, community and primary health care services to more than 270,000 residents from urban and rural settings living on the North Shore as well as in the Sea-to-Sky corridor, Sunshine Coast and the qathet region. It is also affiliated with and provides services to B.C.’s Central Coast including Bella Bella and Bella Coola.
Continued population growth, an aging demographic and LGH’s increasingly regional role all contribute to a high use of clinical services and that demand is expected to increase. We are proactively planning for the future to help ensure those needs are addressed.
Long-term planning process
Health Vision Lions Gate Hospital will consider all clinical services, non-clinical supporting services and regional programs that operate from the LGH campus. This process will provide a unified vision for the development of the campus for the next 30 years, consider the role of LGH as a hub for Coastal communities, and enhance quality of health care in the region.
Once completed, this site-specific plan will help the LGH facility and its suite of services remain aligned with the evolving health-care needs of the local community and broader region. It will feature best practices for the delivery of health-care services, consider key findings from previous planning exercises, and incorporate the latest data to reflect current and projected health-care priorities.
Stay informed about Health Vision Lions Gate Hospital
Health Vision Lions Gate Hospital will be informed through an inclusive engagement process that enables us to hear directly from the communities served by LGH as well as the people who care for these communities. We are asking for input from First Nation partners, community organizations, local and regional government, staff, and medical staff and residents from across the North Shore.
The phase one engagement is now closed, and phase two of engagement is expected in late Fall 2024, when there will be more opportunities to learn about the planning process and provide input. Many thanks to everyone who has provided input so far. Anyone interested in the planning process is invited to subscribe to updates.
