Meet Kenna

"Cohesive, like a family." That is how Kenna Balogh, a Registered Psychiatric Nurse, describes her team. Working as a Case Manager on the Strathcona Mental Health Team in Downtown East Side, Kenna has envisioned a career where she can help people feel connected to others and not alone in their lives. At VCH, she says, she is learning the significance of genuine human connection and compassion for others.

"I feel I am learning something new every day in this role, but most importantly, I am learning the significance of genuine human connection and compassion for others", Kenna Balogh

Kenna is dedicated to helping clients manage their mental health and providing follow-up care in the community. She assists clients with various aspects of their lives, such as housing, engaging in daily activities, building social connections, and cultivating a sense of purpose and belonging within their community.

To perform at her best, Kenna has the support and encouragement of the leaders, who constantly seek ways to help inter-office teamwork and collaboration. The team has daily and monthly meetings for check-in, sharing challenges and successes in the workplace and looking for ways to work together to strengthen the team and support their individuality as health care providers.

"We trust and depend on one another daily for support, whether covering someone's caseload while they take a break or lending an ear for someone to vent to or celebrate each other's success. We go through it all together."

Kenna's fascination for how the mind works and its connection to our well-being led her to pursue a career in mental health and obtain a Bachelor of Science in Registered Psychiatric Nursing. Before joining VCH, Kenna honed her abilities by volunteering in local hospitals and the community and working as an employed student nurse in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. With her expertise and dedication, Kenna is committed to helping individuals improve their mental health and feel welcome in the community.
