Caleigh Goulding, Occupational Therapist

Caleigh Goulding

Up next on our highlight of Occupational Therapy month is Caleigh Goulding, who started with Vancouver Coastal Health in 2019 as an Occupational Therapist (OT) at the BC Psychosis Program (BCPP) at UBC Hospital.

“I worked with the BCPP team throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and while I was pregnant with my daughter,” Caleigh tells us. “After she was born, I wanted to have the opportunity to have more time with her, to spend less time commuting and to be able to enjoy my mornings and evenings with her. I knew that I wanted to stay with VCH, and after doing some research I found Sumac Place on the Sunshine Coast.”

Sumac Place is also a tertiary mental health facility, which is the practice area that Caleigh is most passionate about as a clinician. “My interview with the management team confirmed that the work culture was a wonderful fit.”

Caleigh and her family found a cute little home that is only a ten-minute walk away from work so they relocated in January 2022.

“I love the sense of community in Gibsons,” she says. “There is a culture of caring that is felt everywhere from my worksite to our neighbours to the little Tim Hortons up the road. Our neighbours bring us fresh farm eggs and sew little quilts for my daughter. The proximity to both the forest and the ocean is nothing short of magical. Now I can spend my lunch breaks swimming at the beach, or wandering through our beautiful old-growth forests. I feel a great sense of peace here.”

Caleigh tells us that she felt very well supported by VCH in her transition to the Sunshine Coast. “Recently, I was fortunate enough to be the recipient of an educational grant from The Sechelt Hospital Foundation Staff Educational Funding, which will enable me to further my education in the area of sexual health rehabilitation and occupational therapy practice, something I am very passionate about,” she says. “This relocation was a massive leap for us as a family, but I haven’t for a moment felt that it was the wrong decision.”
