Echocardiography is a medical imaging technique that uses ultrasound waves to create detailed images of the heart’s structure and function. It is a non-invasive and safe procedure that allows healthcare providers to assess the heart’s chambers, valves, blood flow and overall pumping efficiency. Echocardiography is commonly referred to as an “echo”.
Echocardiography is offered at two locations at Vancouver General Hospital
Your health-care provider might order an echocardiogram to assess heart valve function, heart muscle health, blood flow, congenital (present at birth) heart defects, and overall heart function.
- Standard TTE echo procedures.

Get a referral
A referral is required for this service. Have your physician complete the echocardiogram requisition form and fax it to 604-875-5827.

- Monday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Tuesday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Thursday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday: Closed
- Sunday: Closed
The clinic is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and stat holidays.
The Jim Pattison Pavilion is open Monday to Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
