How to access

  • Hospital Admissions

    ​Hospital admissions can be accessed in a number of ways and require a psychiatric assessment.

    If you feel you require this level of service, reach out to your mental health team, crisis lines or go to your closest emergency department (ED).

How to get to each inpatient services unit

The Segal Inpatient Units are located in the Segal Building at VGH, Mental Health & Substance Use Inpatient Levels 5 to 8 at 803 West 12th Ave.

The Psychiatric Assessment Unit (PAU) is located in the Jim Pattison Pavilion building at VGH, 910 West 10th Ave, Vancouver.

PEAT is located in the Jim Pattison Pavilion building at VGH, 910 West 10th Ave, Vancouver.

The Psychiatric Consultation Clinic is at 2775 Laurel Street, Level 8 of the Gordon & Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre

Segal Inpatient Units

75 beds focused on clients who require longer term, intensive treatment to return to their community. The length of stay is approximately five to 12 days.

Psychiatric Assessment Unit (PAU)

14-bed short stay unit focused on clients who require short term, intensive treatment to return to their community. The length of stay is approximately three days. 

Psychiatric Emergency Assessment &Triage PEAT

A co-managed space in the VGH Emergency Department (ED) for assessing and triaging ED patients who present with mental health and substance use conditions.

Psychiatry Consultation Clinic

The Psychiatry Consultation Clinic on Level 8 of the Gordon & Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre (2775 Laurel Street, Vancouver, BC) services the needs for the inpatient units on Medical/Surgical wards. The Physicians will request for a consultation from our program to determine whether the admitted patient is currently dealing with a mental health problem.

A referral through the attending physician is required. The clinic is open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
