Transitional Care Unit at Banfield Pavilion is a short-stay care unit for patients waiting to go to long-term care or to secure community services.
When a patient no longer needs the level of care of an acute care (hospital) site, their care team will determine if their needs can be temporarily met at the Transitional Care Unit (TCU).
Supports at TCU include assistance with personal care and toileting, medication management, activities with recreation staff, such as arts and crafts, movement and music, sensory activities, and more. Meals are provided.
Please note that TCU is located inside Banfield Pavilion on the 4th Floor.

Patients are guided by a care team
- The patient’s care team will confirm eligibility.
- The patient’s care team will complete a referral.
- The patient’s care team will approach the patient and/or their family to obtain consent prior to finalizing the patient’s transfer from acute care to DTCU.

Banfield Pavilion is on 12th Avenue and Ash Street.
There is no parking on site, but there is limited paid street parking. Wheelchair accessible pay parking is available at City Square across the street (555 W 12th Ave.)
Public transit:
Nearby bus routes include 9, 15, 17, and 99 B Line on West Broadway There is a parking lot outside the building, as well as street parking.
Canada Line access from Broadway-City Hall station located at West Broadway and Cambie St. (~1km walk or use aforementioned bus routes).

Convalescent Care
Convalescent care or transitional care is a short-term residential service available for people who have been in hospital and no longer require acute hospital care but who need a little more time to recover. It is provided through our Transitional Care Units (TCU). The length of stay depends on your needs but is usually less than three months.
