Dermatology Clinics

Dermatology clinics provide outpatient clinical services for people with skin problems including acne, warts, dermatitis, skin ulcers, alopecia, folliculitis and fungal infections.

The Rapid Access Dermatology Clinic at Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre is intended for ambulatory patients referred from Vancouver General Hospital Emergency Department (VGH ED) and other VGH clinics. Referrals from other facilities such as Richmond Hospital ED, UBC Hospital ED, and GF Strong Rehabilitation Hospital will be considered.

    The clinic is intended for ambulatory patients referred from VGH Emergency Department, other VGH clinics.  Referrals from other VCH facilities such as Richmond Hospital ED, UBC Hospital ED, and GF Strong Rehabilitation Hospital will be considered.

  • Get a referral

    Inclusion criteria

    • Urgent referrals feasible for outpatient review- i.e. urgent skin conditions in medically fit patients who need review within 1-4 weeks for treatment
    • For urgent referrals requiring immediate review or review within 1 week, contact the Dermatology On-Call service through the VGH switchboard to arrange a review of the patient. These patients will not be seen at the Rapid Access Dermatology Clinic.
    • Patient and referrer should be aware that the patient will be discharged from the clinic following treatment/stabilization as the clinic does not provide chronic care or long-term follow-up

    Exclusion criteria

    • Inpatients
    • Patients requiring immediate review, life, limb or organ-threatening conditions, or conditions requiring review within 1 week should contact the VGH On Call Dermatology service to arrange a review of the patient via the on call team.
    • Chronic, stable conditions e.g. acne, stable psoriasis/eczema, hair, nail etc. These patients should be advised to obtain referral to a community dermatologist via general practitioner
    • Patients already seeing a community dermatologist or recently reviewed by a dermatologist
    • Referrals from the community or general practitioner
    • Referrals from BC Cancer clinics
    • Transplant patients referred for “skin checks” or “mole reviews”.  That would require a separate clinic.

    Diagnostics are not required. 

    The expected wait list time is 1 to 6 weeks. 

    Fax referral forms to the clinic. Patients will be triaged, sometimes with the help of photos if needed.
