Inflammatory arthritis

Inflammatory arthritis describes a group of conditions caused by an overactive immune system. The most common forms of inflammatory arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis. 

  • Managing Inflammatory Arthritis (Two-part series)

    Learn how inflammatory arthritis affects the body, how it is diagnosed, what medications are used, how to do a body scan, and how to manage flares. Attendance at both sessions is encouraged, but not mandatory. 

    Part A: Understanding the Disease (IA)
    Learn the basics about the disease process and medications prescribed for Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Psoriatic arthritis (PSA) and Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS).
    Monday 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

    Part B: Tools for Management (IA)
    Learn the purpose of a body scan and how to perform one, how to manage flares and apply modalities, and understand the role of exercise. Note: This class focuses on RA and PSA. For those with AS, please consider attending the “Managing Spondyloarthritis” class.

  • Managing Spondyloarthritis

    Learn about Ankylosing Spondylitis and other inflammatory arthritis conditions involving the spine. Note: this class is not for osteoarthritis or disc problems, please register for Spine Osteoarthritis instead.

  • Biologics, Biosimilars and Jak inhibitors

    Learn about the different types of advanced therapeutic medications, risks/benefits, and special considerations.

  • Prevention and Management of Osteoporosis (Three-part series)

    Bone health is very important for people with inflammatory arthritis. Learn how to build stronger bones with diet, exercise, lifestyle, and medication. Attendance at all sessions is encouraged, but not mandatory. 

    Part A: Osteoporosis Overview and Treatment
    Learn about osteoporosis, the risk factors, diet, supplements and medications.

    Part B: Part B: Prevention and Management with Exercise
    Learn about the effects and benefits of different exercises and the importance of good posture. Will include a demonstration of exercises.

    Part C: Managing Your Everyday Activities
    Learn about preventing falls and ways to manage everyday activities with greater ease and confidence.

Small group sessions

 Learn ways to address your own challenges and goals in a small group setting.   Audio and/or video participation is encouraged.

  • Ask Anything about Arthritis

    Interactive small group session to answer your questions and discuss arthritis and self-management. Recommended after attending at least one other education session.

    Do you struggle with behaviours, thoughts or emotions that affect your eating?  Learn how to improve what you eat by changing your relationship with food and eating.

    Learn to live out a meaningful life by understanding arthritis and exploring personal needs. The group covers four major topics – arthritis and my life, understanding emotions, grief and fear, and “new normal” health management strategies.
