Tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of death and illness in British Columbia. Efforts to reduce and discourage tobacco use contribute significantly in promoting the health of British Columbians and reducing healthcare costs. Among youth, the use of vapour products has increased considerably. There is concern that this will lead to increased rates of nicotine addiction and exposure to harmful chemicals. Vancouver Coastal Health uses a comprehensive strategy to reduce the harms and burden of tobacco and vapour products use.
Tobacco & vapour products reduction: Focus is on preventing the
use of tobacco and vapour products, supporting those who currently use to
reduce or quit and protecting non-users from the harms of second-hand smoke and
vapour exposure.
Tobacco & vapour porudcts enforcement: Focus is on ensuring
tobacco and vapour product retailer compliance with respect to the Provincial Tobacco and Vapour Products Control Act and
Regulation.
