At VCH, RNs have opportunities to work in diverse health-care settings, from small towns to major cities, including:
Community/Home Health
Community health nurses provide a range of services and support to clients living in the community with acute, chronic, palliative, or rehabilitation-care needs. This care is provided in a team-based care model as a part of an interdisciplinary team, which includes rehab, case management, dietetics and nursing. Clients include frail elderly, persons with disabilities and adults with a range of care needs in areas such as chronic disease management, wound management, IV management and palliative care.
Medical-Surgical
Medical-Surgical nurses (med/surg) provide direct care to a wide variety of patients, often those who are acutely ill, suffering from different health issues, complications and co-morbidities. It is a great starting position for new grad nurses and allows you to gain valuable bedside experience in an acute setting before transferring to a specialty unit such as ICU or the emergency room.
Interventional Radiology
Interventional Radiology (IR) Nurses are vital members of the radiology team, providing patient care and performing nursing functions associated with interventional radiology, computed tomography and other medical imaging procedures to patients of all ages who may be critically ill and/or attached to life-support equipment, both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Mental Health
Combat the stigma associated with mental illness. As a registered psychiatric nurse, your unique skills will qualify you for employment within VCH ranging from psychiatric hospitals to community mental health and addiction.
Public Health
Public Health Nurses provide a full continuum of care and services to infants, children, youth and their families in a variety of settings including homes, schools, health units and community sites in the Vancouver Coastal Health region. Public Health Nurses are individuals who are highly dedicated to improving their community’s health and access to care. These health care professionals translate their knowledge to population groups through targeted interventions, programs, and advocacy. They are vital to disease prevention and control.
Rural Nursing
We have short and long-term opportunities on the beautiful Central and Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, where you can experience nature most travellers could only dream of. This role encompasses a unique set of challenges and opportunities, making it a fulfilling and dynamic field for healthcare professionals.
Specialty Nursing
Specialty Nurses at VCH provide the best care to patients in various specialty areas, including cardiology, critical care, emergency room, operating room, perinatal/pediatric and neonatal, post-anesthesia, renal and rural.
