School-Age Therapy

five children working on schoolwork in a classroom

School-age therapy provides services such as occupational therapy and physiotherapy to children and youth who have neurodevelopmental delays. These services are for students in public school, from kindergarten to the end of high school.

What to expect

The services vary depending on community but often include:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Social work (dependent on location)

The goal of these services is to support children in participating in daily activities, while providing education and training to school staff who support them, so children feel included and can reach their highest level of independence at school, at home and in their community.

The team does not provide direct ongoing services or out-patient therapies. Many families who receive school-age therapy support may also receive Nursing Support Services.
