Your initial visit to the Sleep Disorders Clinic
What to expect during your first visit to the Sleep Disorders Clinic
Your initial clinic visit will be with a sleep physician. It will include a comprehensive consultation to gain as much information about your sleep complaints as possible.
- This consultation will take approximately 1-2 hours.
- We will ask you to fill out a sleep questionnaire to help our physicians get as much information about your sleep as possible. You can fill out or read the questionnaire before your appointment.
- For general sleep disorders, you will receive a sleep diary approximately one month before your sleep clinic appointment. We will use the diary to gather information about your daily sleep patterns.
Depending on the nature of your complaints, you will have to spend one or more nights in the hospital. The sleep disorders physician may refer you to have an overnight sleep study or polysomnogram in our sleep laboratory. If you suffer from excessive sleepiness, you may also need to complete a daytime test (Multiple Sleep Latency Test - MSLT) which will take place the day after your last overnight stay in the sleep laboratory.
