VCH wins FortisBC Efficiency in Action Award

We're honoured to win the FortisBC Efficiency in Action Award in the public sector - provincial category.

FortisBC Efficiency in Action Awards
The FortisBC Efficiency in Action Awards celebrate BC businesses, organizations and builders for exceptional achievements in energy saving in building constructions or in improvements to operations. This year, VCH and ten other organizations were chosen for showing innovation in using or building with natural gas to increase energy efficiency, reduce energy costs and help meet climate action goals.

Why did we win the award?

We were recognized for reaching our sustainability targets by pursuing energy efficiency in our hospitals, primary care clinics, community health centres and residential care homes. We undertook a number of projects last year to achieve 8,500 GJ of natural gas savings, bringing our overall savings to 59,000 GJ since we began working closely with FortisBC in 2010.

“The environmental impact from health care facilities, operations, and services affects the health of the populations and patients we are meant to serve,” said Mauricio Acosta, Director of Facilities Management, Lower Mainland Facilities Management, VCH. “Health care is in a position to take the first step, mitigate such an impact and act as a role model for other organizations — that’s why we take a strategic approach to energy management and environmental sustainability.”
