VCH  is one of five regional health authorities in B.C working in partnership with the Ministry of Health to provide high quality, health care services. We operate more than 120 locations, including hospitals, urgent and primary care centres and other locations across the Coastal, Richmond and Vancouver areas of B.C.

Licensing and immigration processes to support your move

    Work permit

    To start work in British Columbia, Canada, as a non-Canadian citizen or non-Canadian permanent resident, you need a valid work permit. If you are still awaiting outcomes for your work permit or registration process, we encourage you to still apply for jobs with Vancouver Coastal Health. Please make a note in your resume about your work eligibility.

    Registration

    To practice as a health-care professional in B.C., you must be registered with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Nurses who completed their nursing education in the United States, Australia, New Zealand or the United Kingdom, may be able to obtain registration more quickly.

    Relocation, support and financial assistance

    Through the internationally educated nurses (IENs) program, additional support is available, for IENs who have their BCCNM license (including provisional) who have less than 18 months of Canadian nursing experience. Support include workshops, at the elbow support, 1:1 time with an educator, and access to online resources – all in addition to the support received directly from the unit/department hired to, for 18 months from hire date into a nursing role.
