Language, culture, religious affiliations

Residents and staff of the Windermere come from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and speak many languages. The predominant language spoken is English. An Asian meal is available for lunch. Catholic, Anglican and interdenominational services are held weekly.

Accreditation status

Accreditation is an external peer review process to assess and improve the services health care organizations provide to their residents, based on standards of excellence set by Accreditation Canada or by CARF.

Philosophy of care

Windermere Care Centre promotes an interdisciplinary approach to resident care with active participation in care planning by residents and family.

Type of accommodation

185 beds in single rooms. All rooms have large windows and washrooms.

Cost

Residents pay 80% of their after tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation. Minimum and maximum rates apply. There may be other costs not included in the resident contribution.

Special recreation opportunities

A broad range of recreational and restorative care programs are provided by staff and volunteers to meet our residents' physical, spiritual and cognitive abilities. The home has a wheelchair-accessible bus for field trips and outings.

Accessibility

One large wheelchair-friendly elevator and two smaller elevators that do not easily accommodate wheelchairs.

Motorized scooter policy

The home is not able to accommodate motorized wheelchairs or scooters.

Pet policy

Pets are welcome to visit, subject to meeting the requirements of the home's policy for pet visits.

Smoking policy

The care home promotes a smoke-free environment and will assist residents with their smoking cessation efforts. 

Safety & security features

Windermere Care Centre is not a secured site. However, the garden is enclosed, and exits are locked or monitored for wandering. “RoamAlert” wander monitoring system is available for residents at risk. All rooms have smoke detectors, sprinklers and two call bells. Security cameras monitor all floors.

Neighbourhood & community amenities

One block to transit on Oak Street. Close to City Square shopping centre and the Broadway shopping corridor.
