Vancouver Coastal Health to assume assets, operations from Little Mountain Residential Care and Housing Society

VCH is in the process of securing the necessary approvals, consulting with relevant stakeholders, and completing customary due diligence. The transition is expected to be complete in the coming months.  

"Over the past several years, Vancouver Coastal Health has worked closely with Little Mountain Residential Care and Housing Society to support the management of these facilities," said Bob Chapman, interim Vice-President, Vancouver Coastal Health. "The transfer of these facilities to VCH will provide long-term stability for staff and help ensure safe, quality care for residents." 

During this transition, residents will continue to receive the same services, supports and the appropriate level of care they require. VCH and LMRCHS are committed to working with residents, their families, and staff to ensure a seamless transition.

"The pandemic has shone a light on issues that exist at Little Mountain Residential Care and Housing Society, which include a limited ability to attract and provide growth opportunities for staff and insufficient access to support services like finance, human resources and general administrative support," said Bob Breen, President, Board of Directors, Little Mountain Residential Care and Housing Society. "This is a move that has not been made lightly but one that will ensure greater stability and resources to provide the best possible care for residents."

The Little Mountain Residential Care & Housing Society was established in 1983. Little Mountain Place, a 116-bed long-term care home for seniors, opened in 1987. Little Mountain Court an independent housing facility for seniors and people with disabilities opened next to Little Mountain Place in 1988. Adanac Park Lodge, a 73-bed long-term care home that includes care for younger adults with complex mental health and cognitive needs, opened in 2000.

VCH is responsible for the delivery of $4.1 billion in community, hospital and long-term care to more than one million people in communities including Richmond, Vancouver, the North Shore, Sunshine Coast, Sea to Sky corridor, Powell River, Bella Bella and Bella Coola. VCH also provides specialized care and services for people throughout B.C., and is the province's hub of health-care education and research.
