The Traditional Elders and Knowledge Keepers Program embeds Elders and Knowledge Keepers from different First Nations at acute and community health care sites.

What to expect

Traditional Elders and Knowledge Keepers offer culturally specific medicines and healing methods in support of Indigenous patients, clients and families. They have live experiences, historical knowledge, spiritual wisdom, and cultural connections to support client and patient care and provide a bridge between health care professionals and patients.

By supporting patients and clients, fostering healing and facilitating learning, Traditional Elders and Knowledge Keepers play an essential role in ensuring culturally safe care at VCH.
