Palliative care is specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses – whatever the diagnosis. End-of-life care provides comfort, dignity and quality-of-life care for people with life-limiting illnesses and support for family and friends. The focus is on comfort care, such as pain control, rather than care aimed at curing illness.
We partner with you, your family and your caregivers to meet your physical, emotional, social and spiritual care needs. While you are in our care, your personal, cultural and faith values will be respected at all times, as well as your beliefs and practices. The type of palliative care services you receive depends on your needs and the stage of your illness.
What to expect
Care can be provided wherever the client is, whether at home, in hospice, an assisted living residence or a long-term care home.
If you are in the last few months of your life and feel that you can no longer manage at home, hospice may be a good option for you. Hospices are meant to feel more like a home than a hospital. They are designed and furnished to provide a peaceful, home-like environment for you and your family.
In hospice, you will have a room where you can bring some small personal items. Your family and friends can visit as much or as little as you wish. Nurses and care aides are always around, and other team members are available, including spiritual care.
