The Overdose Outreach Team provides service navigation and linkage to health and social services including substance use treatment for people who have recently experienced an opioid overdose and/or are at high risk for opioid overdose.
The team currently serves Powell River, Sechelt, Whistler/Pemberton, Squamish, Vancouver/Richmond and the North Shore.
What to expect
The program has Social Workers, Outreach Workers, Peers Support Specialists and Nurses available to assist individuals with:
- Navigating appropriate health and social services (i.e. primary care, substance use treatment, detox facilities, treatment/recovery facilities, etc.)
- Accessing Opiate Agonist Therapies (OAT) therapies such as Suboxone, Methadone, etc., including novel substance use treatment modalities, including injectable OAT programs.
- Harm reduction & overdose prevention education
- Connections to a range of community-based resources depending on client identified goals/needs.
If you think someone is Overdosing, please call 9-1-1 immediately. If available, consider administering Naloxone right away, a medication that can temporarily reverse an overdose.
