Orientation Information

Helping to develop the best workforce, VCH Orientation establishes employee culture, provides information necessary to begin a career at VCH, and facilitates a connection to resources. Here's how it works!

Getting started at VCH

IMPORTANT: all new hires must create a Health Organization Employee account for VCH in Learning Hub (or update a pre-existing VCH volunteer, student or other account) to complete/access the VCH Regional Orientation courses online. See the Learner’s FAQ Sheet for details.

Part 1: CareerHub Onboarding Portal and VCH Orientation Online

Pre-Boarding via the CareerHub Onboarding Portal introduces staff to a variety of topics including Respectful Workplace, MySchedule, Emergency Codes, and more. It also connects staff to VCH Orientation Online, and either the Point-of-Care or Non-Point-of-Care Checklists in LearningHub. These checklists contain mandatory content for new employees including Privacy, Infection Prevention, and Violence Prevention modules. All new hires should complete this curriculum, regardless of worksite or role (unless they are a re-hire who completed it in the last 18 months). New hires to VCH are provided the LearningHub link within the VCH Onboarding Portal, and should allow 4-hours for completion of all sections.

Part 2: VCH Regional Orientation

This portion of VCH Orientation prepares new employees for their role within the broader context of the organization, by building on what they've learned so far. Depending on the new hire's role, they may be assigned a combination of modules, virtual sessions, and in-person hands-on learning.

See maps below.

New hires are registered for this portion of Orientation by the Onboarding team or by their unit manager, educator, or delegated administrator. After the Regional Clinical Education team processes the registration, the new hire will receive an email from do-not-reply@roar.vchclinicaleducation.ca or VCHOrientation@vch.ca with their schedule and instructions.

VCH Regional Orientation is generally not for students doing practicums or for VCH employees who have been away from work for less than 12 months, unless they are changing roles.

Part 3: Information Technology & Systems Training (if applicable)

This training may not apply to all new hires. For more information, visit the Clinical Computer Systems page (internal oneVCH link).

For information on CST Cerner, please see the Cerner Operations Training page.

Part 4: Unit/Program/Department Level Orientation

Content covered at this stage is based on individual learning needs at the unit/department level. Information is provided to new hires by the unit/department leaders.

After all 4 parts are completed as applicablenew employees may need to complete other online modules and/or in-person training as per their educator/manager.
