How to access mental health and substance use support in Richmond, B.C.

Contact the Vancouver Coastal Health Richmond Mental Health and Substance Use Central Intake team for help finding non-life-threatening mental health or substance use support if you live or stay in Richmond, B.C. 

  • Call: (604) 204-1111 Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 
  • Drop in: Richmond Place - 8100 Granville, unit 620 during intake times: 
    • Adults, Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., or 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. 
    • Children and youth: Tuesdays 2 to 4 p.m. 

Intake services are available in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Free interpreting services are also available in other languages.

When you call or drop in, our team can connect you to the right services or resources when you need them and where you need them. Services support children, youth, adults, and older adults. Some services will require a referral from a physician, midwife or nurse practitioner. You can speak to our intake team for more details.

Services

    • Richmond Community MHSU Central Intake at Richmond Place

      Contact us or drop in the clinic to access this service. This service helps find non-life-threatening mental health or substance use support for individuals of all ages.

    • Richmond Acute Home Base Treatment (AHBT)

      Referral from a health-care provider is required. This service provides short-term care in the home as an alternative to hospital for adults aged 17 or older who have mental health and/or substance use concerns and are experiencing a worsening of their symptoms.

    • Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) Richmond

      Contact us to learn if this service is right for you. Referral from a health-care provider is also accepted. This service provides assessment and treatment for individuals aged 13 to 30 who recently developed psychosis.

    • Geriatric Assessment Program (GAP)

      Referral from a health-care provider is required. This service is a comprehensive geriatric consultation program offering assessment and treatment services for older adults aged 70 or older. This service specializes in care for individuals with complex physical, cognitive, and chronic disease management challenges.

    • Psychiatric Inpatient Services at Richmond Hospital

      This is a mental health inpatient service also known as 2 West at Richmond Hospital. This service provides assessment and treatment to adults who require acute 24-hour management in a hospital setting.

    • Rapid Access Consult Clinic (RACC) at Community Health Access Centre

      Referral from a health-care provider is required. This service offers a one-time psychiatrist consultation for diagnostic clarification and medication review for adults aged 19 or older.

    • Richmond Assertive Community Team (ACT) at Community Health Access Centre

      Referral from a health-care provider is required. This service is a client-centred, recovery-oriented mental health service delivery model for adults aged 19 or older who have serious mental conditions and complex substance use disorders, have severe functional impairments, and would benefit from comprehensive, wrap-around care.

    • Richmond Bridge House

      Referral from a health-care provider is required. This service is a short-stay crisis intervention facility in the community for individuals aged 19 or older who are experiencing a mental health crisis but do not require an acute psychiatric hospitalization. Clients are cared for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be admitted for a maximum of 14 days.

    • Richmond Eating Disorders Program

      Referral from a health-care provider is required. This is a community-based assessment and treatment service for youth, adults and families with eating disorders. Treatment may include individual, group and/or family counselling, medical monitoring and nutritional support.

    • Richmond Mental Health Consumer and Friends Society (RCFC)

      Contact us to learn if this service is right for you. Referral from a health-care provider is accepted. This service is a self-governing peer-run mental health organization for adults aged 19 or older who are living with mental health concerns.

    • Richmond Mental Health Team at the Community Health Access Center

      Referral from a health-care provider is required. This service provides case management, psychiatry and rehabilitation services for adults aged 19 or older who have ongoing mental health and substance use concerns that affect their functioning & require a broad range of coordinated services.

    • Richmond Older Adult Mental Health Team at the Community Health Access Center

      Referral from a health-care provider is required. This service provides assessment and treatment for older adults aged 65 or older who have serious mental health concerns complicated by complex medical issues or dementia with behavioural and psychological symptoms. This is also for adults under 65 who have early-onset dementia.

    • Outpatient Psychiatry Services at Richmond Hospital

      Offers short-term follow-up in the areas of general and older adult psychiatry.

    • Psychiatric Emergency Unit at Richmond Hospital

      This service provides a brief stay for the assessment, stabilization and treatment of people who are experiencing a psychiatric/mental health crisis.

    • Transitions

      Referral from a health-care provider is required. This service provides assessment and treatment for adults aged 19 or older who have substance use (including alcohol or drugs) and/or mental health concerns (including mood and anxiety).

    • Step Up/Step Down services - Richmond

      Urgent response for children and youth who are at moderate to high risk of suicide. This service includes the Team Response to Adolescent & Children in Crisis (TRACC)

    • Early Childhood Mental Health Services at Richmond Place – 8100 Granville Avenue

      Assessment and treatment for behavioural/emotional problems in infants and children aged 0 to 6. Services are made up of a multidisciplinary team composed of psychiatrists and allied health professionals, including psychologists, social workers, and counsellors.

    • Richmond Family Access Support Team (RFAST)

      Contact us to learn if this service is right for you. This service is an intensive outreach team for families where at least one member of the family is facing severe mental illness and/or substance use issues.

    • Anne Vogel Clinic

      Provides comprehensive assessment, support and Opioid Agonist Treatment to Richmond residents and people living in surrounding areas who are using opioids.

    • Cognitive Assessment and Rehabilitation for Substance Use Program (CARSU) at Richmond Place

      Contact us to learn if this service is right for you. Referral from a health-care provider is also accepted. This service provides assessment and treatment services for individuals of all ages who are experiencing cognitive challenges related to substance use including alcohol.

    • Harm Reduction Supplies & Needle Distribution Site at Richmond Hospital ER

      Harm reduction supplies including clean needles, sterile water, alcohol swabs, pipes and health information to support safer substance use practices. We also provide safer sex supplies including condoms.

    • Harm Reduction Supplies & Needle Distribution Site at Richmond Place
