Public safety advisory for customers of Polonia Sausage House
Vancouver, BC – Vancouver Coastal Health is warning customers of Polonia Sausage House not to consume certain meat products due to possible bacterial contamination, including E. coli 0157:H7, listeria, or other bacteria.
During an inspection, inspectors discovered that these products were not processed using a validated method consistent with food safety standards. The retailer has stopped selling the items and is fully cooperating. No illnesses have been reported linked to these products.
Eight different sausage products, manufactured and sold by Polonia Sausage House, have been recalled because they could potentially be contaminated. The products were sold at Polonia Sausage House locations in Vancouver and Surrey between Aug. 1 and Nov. 2, 2018.

Customers are being advised to either throw the products out or return them to the place of purchase.
The following Polonia Sausage House products, sold in various weights, are affected by this alert:
- Cervelat Salami
- Polish Salami
- Ziger Salami
- Hungarian Salami
- Chorizo
- Polish Smoked Sausage
- Hot Hungarian
- Gypsy Salami
Foodborne infections can cause a range of mild to severe symptoms. For example, E. coli 0157:H7 infection can cause diarrhea and stomach cramps and on rare occasions it can lead to kidney failure. Listeria can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and fever, and can also cause meningitis or other serious illnesses. Young children, seniors, and people who have compromised immune systems are more likely to experience serious illness. If you think you have an infection following consumption of these products, see your family doctor for testing, advice and treatment.
